Things to do in Kerang

Kerang is well known as the Lakes District, with 57 lakes, abundant bird life and rich history making it a great destination for holiday makers. Water, wetlands and a busy country events calendar are all within easy reach of the motel.

On the water and in the wetlands

Bike riding, bird watching, boating, camping, fishing, hiking, sailing, swimming, water skiing and yabbying all happen within minutes of Kerang. The Middle Lake Ibis Rookery Bird Hide, 9 km north on the Murray Valley Highway, is the standout for birders, while Reedy Lake swimming beach and APEX Park sit three kilometres north. Kerang Regional Park adds kayaking, Park Run and river walking tracks close to town.

Town attractions

The Visitor Information Centre and Lester Smith Lookout share the Sir John Gorton Library on the corner of the Murray Valley Highway and Shadforth Street. The Historical Museum is on Riverwood Drive, and the Memorial Clock Tower and Kerang Antiques stand at Victoria and Wellington Streets. Shadforth Street holds the swimming pool with its splash park and waterslide, and there is a warm water exercise pool at Patchell Plaza on Victoria Street. Events through the year

Parkrun runs Saturdays at 8 am and the Kerang Country Market falls on every fourth Saturday. The calendar also takes in the Easter Tennis Tournament, bowling tournaments, the Kerang Art Show, the Flower Show, the Annual Show in October, Kerang Turf Club meetings at Christmas and Easter, and the Memorial Hall Dance Weekend on the fourth weekend of July. Further out, look for the Murrabit Country Market, the Victorian Water Ski Racing Titles at Lake Charm and Kangaroo Lake, and the Australian Tractor Pull at Quambatook on Boxing Day and at Easter.
